We don’t do this work for the recognition. Knowing that we’ve built a brand that’s effective and true to our clients’ core values is our primary goal. That said, recognition for a job well done can be lovely. I still recall the pride I felt hearing my name called out when I was awarded Honorable Mention in the Snowmobile Safety Poster Contest in second grade.

Serendipity: a happy accident or a fortunate mistake. You can plan a TV shoot seemingly exhaustively, but when you actually show up with your cameras and crew you can’t always be quite sure what you’re going to get. Yet the unplanned moments that fall into place can become the most memorable parts of your spot.

Just What Do We Look Like?

Party decorations. Interior design for the children’s wing of a psychiatric hospital. Commemorative plaques. Event planning. Speechwriting. A magazine profile of an NFL coach. These are just a few of the things I’ve worked on over the last few months, along with the more routine radio spots, print ads, videos, brochures and web sites. Though in fact, very little about what I do as a creative today is routine. And contrary to this era of agency specialization, I think that’s wonderful.
